Meal Program

Join Our Meal Program every Saturday

Each week, newcomers from across the African diaspora meet to prepare meals, share information, receive settlement services or learn about training, housing and employment opportunities.

Healthy Meals

Our meals are prepared with fresh ingredients, Halal meats, and a menu that prioritizes the East African palate.

Partnerships

Our partnership with The Greenest City program also provides an opportunity to learn about urban gardening with other members of the Parkdale community.

Cultural Meals

MBK participants are encouraged to prepare their own traditional meals and continue to diversify our meal program.

Locally grown produce

There are also many opportunities to introduce refugees to locally grown vegetables and fruits as well as other healthy meals from different cultures that are easy to prepare and affordable.

Weekly Meal

Each week, newcomers from across the African diaspora meet to prepare meals, share information, receive settlement services or learn about training, housing and employment opportunities.

Community

The meal program fosters a sense of community by bringing newcommers together during meal times, allowing them to connect with others who share similar experiences.

What is the Meal Program?

African newcomers have shared that their health has declined since arriving in Canada due to the processed foods and North-American ingredients served at their shelters. Many are lactose-intolerant and have experienced high blood pressure, increased cholesterol and constipation. The Meal Program provides refugees with well-balanced meals that cater to a variety of dietary needs, preferences, and cultural backgrounds. What started as a meal program, has now evolved into more than just a meal program. It is a home away from home and a safe space for Black refugees from all walks of life.
