About us

Our Story

In June 2023, two friends headed out to 129 Peter Street to provide nutritious meals to African asylum seekers who had been sleeping outside the shelter for weeks. What started out as a temporary solution soon evolved into a grassroots organization which supports 200 people with in-person and virtual resources.

Each week, newcomers from across the African diaspora meet to prepare meals, share information, receive settlement services or learn about training, housing and employment opportunities.

Our Approach

Our Mission

My Brother’s Keeper was founded on the principle that by serving one another we are representing God’s love and the power of community. (Matthew 25:35-40).

Our Vision

To be a beacon of hope and support, bridging cultural divides and empowering African newcomers to thrive and contribute positively to their new communities, embodying the spirit of unity, compassion, and resilience.
